Java Island is the political and cultural center of Indonesia. It is the most densely populated island in the country, home to more than 141 million people. Javanese culture combines aspects of Buddhism, Islam, and Hinduism. Among its most well-known cultural manifestations are wayang puppetry, gamelan music, traditional dances, and batik fabrics. The Prambanan and Borobudur temples are located on the island, along with other historical sites. Java Island is divided into four provinces: East Java, West Java, and Central Java.
